Different settings

There are several different forms of learning in tandem partnerships at the RUB:

  • In a face-to-face-tandem the tandem language partners individually arrange a time and day to work together.
  • In group tandem courses up to 25 tandem language partners meet daily for two to three weeks as a part of a group. Group tandem courses are part of the courses regularly offered at the ZFA and are organized in cooperation with other universities.
  • The eTandem provides the opportunity to learn with learners via email (non-simultaneous communication) or via chat, messenger or Skype (simultaneous communication) - individually or in groups (group eTandem courses).

eTandem: English as a foreign language

The ZFA also offers the following options for training in English as a foreign language (especially oral skills) in winter semester 2024/25:

  • Participation in eTandem in cooperation with Royal Holloway, University of London. Registration from September 16 onwards will take place via the regular registration form. The joint introductory event via Zoom will take place on 24 October 2024 from 7-8 pm. The link will be sent by e-mail to all registered participants.
     
  • Participation in eTandem in cooperation with Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Registration from September 16 onwards will take place via the regular registration form.
     
  • Participation of MINT students in the Tandem.MINT program. Information on registration can be found here.

Tandem.MINT - Language tandem for students of natural sciences and engineering

The Tandem.MINT program, a specialist language tandem for students of STEM subjects, will also take place in the summer semester 2025. All information and the registration form can be found on the project website.
