When do the course exams take place?

The exact forms, contents and dates of the assessment procedure will be announced by the teachers at the beginning of each course. Dates of the collective exams at the end of the semester (Klausurtermine) can be found in the PDF on the right.

How do I register for the final exam in my course?

Registration for the course final exam takes place automatically after the course deregistration deadline.

Regular RUB students are registered via eCampus. Students admitted to the courses from other German universities, school students, participants of the FWJ and RUB employees are also automatically registered for the final course examinations. However, we do not send out registration confirmations.

Please note that you have to register separately for UNIcert® exams.

What requirements do I have to fulfil to be eligible for the exams?

In all courses of the ZFA there is an attendance requirement of 75% (read here) as well as other minimum requirements: If these are not met, you will not be admitted to the final course examination and will not be able to obtain a course certificate.

More detailed information on course requirements and exam admission requirements will be made available in the course.

How and when do I get my grade?

The pass mark in the final course examinations at the ZFA is usually 60%.

Regular RUB students can view their course grade in eCampus under the heading "My transcripts". Students from other German universities who have been admitted to the courses as well as school students and employees will be notified of their course completion by e-mail (and receive a certificate if successful).

Please note that the lecturers have until 31 March in the winter semester and until 30 September in the summer semester to grade the exams. If you need your results sooner for valid reasons, please inform your lecturer as early as possible.

When am I allowed to attend the re-sit exam?

The re-sit exam is

  • a second chance for students who have failed the main exam (or a significant part thereof), or
  • an alternative appointment for students who were demonstrably unable to take the exam on the main date due to illness.

For written parts of the examination (Klausur), it is as a rule also possible to register for the re-sit appointment if the main date was missed for other reasons. However, if you skip the main date and take the re-sit appointment as your first exam attempt, you thereby forego a further examination attempt.

The oral part of the examination (mündliche Produktion) can generally only be retaken in the event of a demonstrably illness-related absence. If an appointment is missed for other reasons, the part of the examination is deemed not to have been taken and is awarded 0 points. In individual cases, it may still be possible to complete the course if sufficient points are achieved in the other parts of the examination.

If you cannot attend your scheduled appointment for Oral exam due to illness, please submit a medical certificate without delay to your teacher and to anna.timukova@rub.de so that your eligibility for a make-up appointment can be reviewed.

Information on the registration procedure for re-sit appointments can be found in the column on the right.

Different regulations apply to UNIcert® exams, language courses for specific purposes (English), and courses with predominantly cumulative assessment.

What do I do if I have a technical malfunction during an online examination?

As lecturers and examiners at the ZFA, we make every effort to ensure that an online examination runs smoothly. However, it is also and above all your responsibility as an examinee to ensure prior to the examination date that you have sufficient technical equipment for your exam. This includes both a suitable end device and a stable internet connection.

You will find further information in this information sheet.

How do I get special provisions?

If you would like to apply for disability provisions for participation in a language course and/or the related assessment procedures at the ZFA, please contact anna.timukova@rub.de as early as possible (but no later than 8 weeks before the examination date concerned).
